I am so excited to tell you about these BareShield flanges from BareMotherhood! Something to keep in mind about pumping is that it is very personal. What might work for me might not work for you and vice versa. I am just sharing my honest review and opinion about these flanges so you can research and decide if you want to invest in them! Here are some things to know about me before we dive into this review: I have been exclusively pumping for 12 months, I am pumping 4 times a day, I am an overproducer, I am a size 15mm flange, and I am a small C cup. My two main pumps I use every single day are the Baby Buddha 2.0 and Pumpables Genie Advanced.

Thank you to BareMotherhood for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.

I found Dr. Casey Mercado of Bare Motherhood on Instagram early in my pumping journey and had been following her for awhile when she asked if I wanted to try the BareShield flanges. I jumped at the chance to give them a try and honestly have not looked back. Although these flanges were gifted to me, I am giving you my completely honest review!

I was rotating them in with my plastic flanges but stopped…because they are just so much more comfortable and now I only use the BareShields! I hand wash these babies every single night before bed so they are ready to go in the morning. If you are an exclusively  pumping mom, you know that this means they are good if they are getting washed every night!

The BareShields come in a set of two, 100% FDA approved food grade silicone and come in a variety of sizes: 24mm, 21mm, 18mm, 15mm, 12mm. Casey has a detailed FAQ and how to properly measure/size these as they are going to be slightly different than traditional plastic flange sizing. The silicone and design help minimize friction and they are compatible with most pumps. I personally use the BabyBuddha and the Pumpables Genie Advance and have no issue.

How to Put Flanges On

These do take some getting used to but once you get the hang of how to get them on, it’s smooth sailing! You simply fold slide the flange into your bra, (I’m a Davin & Adley gal!), fold the flange back, center the opening over your nipple, and then fold the flange back over your breast. They suction to your breast and once you are attached to your pump, you can turn it on and realign them as needed. I sign the flashlight on my phone against to the tunnel to ensure everything is where it is supposed to be!

The other big factor for me outside of comfort is output. My output actually increased with these and I think that’s because the ducts on the underside of my breast are no longer getting squished/cut off by the hard plastic of traditional flanges. Remember this is how I respond – you might not see an increase in output!

Here is what you need to know before purchasing:

  • You will need a flange connector to be able to attach to them to your pumps. I have this wide mouth connector
  • You should order the size that is closest to nipple diameter
    • I measure 13mm but the 12mm fit better than the 15mm
  • Pricing could make it hard to buy more than one set as these are $34.99
    • Good news is, I have a discount code for you – CAIT10 for 10% off
    • If I wasn’t near the end of my pumping journey, I would personally invest in an extra set or two of both the flanges and the connectors so I wasn’t constantly washing parts every single night

I can’t recommend these enough! I like that they are closer to your actual size as opposed to other brands, they don’t dig in anywhere, and that they are compatible with most breast pumps. I will definitely be using these on my next pumping journey!

Review Disclaimer: I am just a regular shmegular mom who had to turn to exclusive pumping in order to continue to breastfeed. I had a good internet connection and the right kind of ADHD to make researching and deep diving possible. Brands will send me products in exchange for a review and I will only agree to work with them if they understand I will tell no lies to my mamas! Affiliate links shared.
