Pump or Treat: Breastfeeding & Pumping on the Go Made Easy

October 3, 2025

Spooky season may be full of tricks and treats, but pumping on the go doesn’t have to be one of the scary parts! Juggling babies, parties, and neighborhood adventures can feel overwhelming, but with a little prep, it’s totally manageable.

Let’s go over my favorite pumping-on-the-go hacks, snacks, and mindset tips so you can enjoy trick-or-treat adventures without constantly watching the clock.

The only pic we took for our first Halloween as a family of 3! Baby was the Great Pumpkin and I was Charlie Brown – my Tushbaby was the squiggle on Charlie’s shirt!

The Trick: Planning Ahead 🎭

The logistics of exclusive pumping can feel spooky—but it doesn’t have to be! Think of it like planning a Halloween trick-or-treating route, with a little wiggle room built in.

  • Don’t stress about exact timing. It’s okay to pump 30-60 minutes early or late—being present with your littles, friends, and family is what matters most. It’s only one night!
  • Scout the location ahead of time. Whether it’s a school “fall festival,” trick-or-treating in the neighborhood, or a friend’s Halloween party, knowing where you can pump makes things easier.
  • Go with the flow. One or two nights off your usual schedule won’t derail your supply—promise.

The Treat: Packing Smart 🍬

A solid pump bag is your Halloween MVP. I love the Sarah Wells Norah Backpack—it has two insulated pouches, room for diaper bag essentials, and is super comfy to wear. Here’s my must-have kit for pumping on the go:

Bonus: keep your bag stocked and ready for spontaneous adventures—because you never know when a last-minute party invite might pop up! And snacks. Make sure you’ve got good snacks for you!

Tricks for Staying Comfortable 👻

Costume + pumping-friendly clothing = less stress, more fun.

And if anyone makes a comment or tries to make you uncomfortable? Remember: breastfeeding in public is legal in all 50 states. In the words of David Rose: they can “eat glass.”

Treats That Make Life Easier 🍭

Tracking your pumping schedule while out and about can be a game-changer.

  • Apps: I love The Pump Log—reminders, session tracking, and freezer stash tracking all in one.
  • Simple hacks: Phone alarms or calendar alerts work just as well.
  • Mindset: One or two nights off schedule is completely fine. Your worth is not measured in ounces—do what you can, let the rest go, and focus on fun with your littles.
  • Don’t forget to pack snacks you can eat with one hand while on the go!!

Also, don’t forget to claim 30% of the candy for being the chauffeur 😜

Quick Tips for a Stress-Free Halloween

  • Pack extra milk bags and ice packs.
  • Dress in layers for easy access.
  • Bring snacks for yourself.
  • Don’t stress about the clock.
  • Enjoy the night with your little ghouls and goblins!
