It has been a journey to find a pump that works and after a lot of fanagling, I’ve found a nice little rhythm with the BabyBuddha *and* the Pumpables Genie Advanced (PGA).
I think it’s important to include context in these reviews so if you want to find out more about me and my pumping journey, you can read this blog post either before or after you read this review.
Friendly reminder that pumping is subjective! These are my own personal thoughts and experiences with the Pumpables Genie Advanced.
The Pumpables Genie Advanced (PGA) is the Pumpables portable version of their SuperGenie. I have personally never used the larger version, but have heard great things. I have heard the PGA referred to as the “Mini Spectra” and I feel that it’s closer to a mix of the Spectra and Baby Buddha. It offers both a Letdown (stimulation) and Expression modes, belt clip & lanyard, rechargeable battery with 3 hours pumping time, USB-C charging (universal charge port!), is FDA approved, and FSA/HSA reimbursable (funds are also accepted on the website). Pumpables also has a 2 Year Warranty. It’s quiet at 45dB and has one of my favorite features of any pump – recordable program option.

You will find both a letdown (stimulation) and expression mode to utilize while pumping. Letdown is a continuous vacuum that goes up to level 10. Expression has both cycle and vacuum options. An easy way to understand what cycle/vacuum means is cycle is how fast the pull is and vacuum is how strong the suction is. Cycle goes up to level 3, vacuum goes up to level 10. I struggled to respond to the Spectra because of the vibration and feel that the letdown mode on the PGA is very similar to the letdown mode on the Spectra and stopped using it all together. My body just does not respond well to any vibration. I will sometimes use it for about 30 seconds to 1 min, especially on days that I am feeling sensitive to kind of ‘warm up’. My cycle came back 8 months postpartum and my nipples can get extra sensitive during ovulation! I respond really well to the Baby Buddha, which has a strong, mechanical pull and I have found I can replicate that in expression mode by keeping the cycle at a 1 and vacuum around a 4-5. Automatic shut off is at 40 minutes instead of 30 which I really like!

Another really great feature is the option to record a “Program”. So if you like to be in letdown for a certain amount of time or like to toggle between letdown and expression to stimulate multiple letdowns throughout a session, you are going to love this option. You simply record one session, manually switching your settings, and the pump will save it and you can then use it any time you want to pump. You will only have the ability to record one program but can delete and re-record if you need to change things up.

One of the other things I love about this pump is that it’s “hackable” meaning that you can attach it to all sorts of different flange set ups. I personally use the traditional set up that came with my Spectra but have also attached them to different collection cups. This means you can get whatever replacement parts you need from your normal source! If you go with the Shield Kit from Pumpables, you can buy them directly on the Pumpables website.
This is a great little pump to take on the go and use either with your flanges or collection cups. It fits in all of my different bags (and ya girl’s got baaaags! No really, I have a problem lol) but I don’t find myself reaching for it as often as my wearables or BabyBuddha and I’ll explain why below.

I do not have any issues with the design and technical specifications of this pump. It’s a very, very close second to my number 1, the Baby Buddha, only because PGA empties me slower and I think that’s in part to the vibration and a similar suction pattern to the Spectra. What I get in 30-35 min on the PGA, I get in about 20-25 min with the BabyBuddha. So when I am going to be out pumping and I don’t want to use my wearables, I am grabbing my Baby Buddha. This comes down to pumping being personal – this is a “me” thing!
Overall Thoughts
Overall, I love this little pump! If you love the Spectra, I think you’re also going to love this little pump. As mentioned above, it’s a very close second to my Baby Buddha and I use it 2-3 times a day, every day. I give it a 9 out of 10 *only* because it takes a wee bit longer to empty me than the BabyBuddha. Again, my issue is with the slight vibration and that is very much a me thing. I’ve been using it for 7 months and will absolutely be using it if I have to pump with my second baby. You’ll have the option to get this pump through your insurance (some insurances!) or use your HSA/FSA funds. You can use this link here to shop and use code THATMILLENNIALMOM for 10% off.
I put together a guide on what to know ahead of purchasing a pump through insurance, which you can find here.
